Age 15
El Paso Tx.

My name is Rosalinda Gonzales and my son is Gino Gonzales, he is 15 years old, he was diagnosed with autism in 2006. Because of my lack of knowledge about the laws that protect people with disabilities and the special education process, my son was not receiving the services that he needed in school. It was until almost two years ago that I found CDIC, here is where I received assistance and they explained in a simpler way how I could become my son’s advocate to obtain the appropriate special education services. I don’t want to say that it has been easy, but I finally was able to work with the school so that he could receive an appropriate education based on his disability and needs. I am very proud of the accomplishments that we have made and now I can deal with difficult issues and I can look forward to a better future without being afraid, thanks to CDIC, I have learned to advocate for my son and I will never be able to repay them. Now I am sure that I will be able to accomplish what every mother wishes for her son with disabilities; that they become independent and happy adults.

"The staff here had something in common with us, they were also parents of children with special needs. "

Andrew and Daniel, - Disabilities Information success story, CDIC El Paso Andrew and Daniel Romo
Ages 6 & 8
El Paso Tx.

My name is Cristina Dominguez; I am the proud parent of Andrew and Daniel. We arrived in El Paso Texas in August of 2008. We came looking for something more that could help Andrew who is 6 years old and has autism and Daniel who is 8 years old and has a diagnosis of ADD both reach their maximum potential. When we got to this city, we had the opportunity to find CDIC. Since the first day we were received like if they knew us from before and they made us feel at home, and that had to do with the fact that the staff here had something in common with us, they were also parents of children with special needs. Here is where I was able to find the help that I needed so that both my children could receive special education services based on their needs. Now I volunteer with CDIC and I want to help other parents that come here like I did some years back.
